1en1is1 (1+1=1)

Artist Jonas Ohlsson and I have been working together for a few months. From next Friday you can see what we and all those other artist duos have made! On Friday, May 17th, the festive opening of 1en1is1 takes place in Arti et Amicitiae. With, from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM an introduction to the artists, followed by a speech by Annet Zondervan, director of CBK Zuidoost and, in from 21:00 until midnight: music and dance with DJ’s ‘Vrouwen zijn ok’.

‘1 and 1 is 1’ is about collaboration between artists who do not know each other. Two artists work together to create one new work, or more new works. It can be anything from an abstract painting to a, well, what? In our time overcoming contradictions is essential. 1 and 1 is 1, are encounters between younger and older artists, connecting cultures, letting go of what you did before, gaining different insights, getting to know each other, an open attitude, combining the best you have within you with the best of another. The participants are linked by draw. In short, well-considered and brutal. The stately Arti building meets the somewhat unpolished CBK Zuidoost. In addition to the works of art, the exhibition provides insight into the working process. How did the collaboration go? What has it achieved? An exhibition as a gift, as a surprise and again, especially now.

Performance
On Sunday June 2nd, from 14:00 – 16:00, Jonas Ohlsson and I will give a performance PING PONG DRAWING. “MAARTJE JAQUET AND JONAS OHLSSON show in a live performance how they work together for the 1en1is1 project. With varying music for the atmosphere, they draw and paint on each other’s work. One makes a start, the other continues to work on it and then gives it back. The work of art keeps changing makers until the artists decide together that it is finished. Right next to them, an extra workplace has been created for two people who feel like joining in. This way you can, besides seeing what it is like to work this way, also experience it.”
