The One Minutes Series of this summer is ‘We Need New Superstars’, curated by No Limits! Art Castle. This series of 21 one-minute long videos advocates for a new range of superstar identities with diverse bodies and minds, including neurodiverse, disabled, sex-working, queer, animal, and even scarred individuals as superstars. It raises questions about what to do when you are a superstar with panic attacks and whether your teddy bear can also be a superstar.

No Limits! Art Castle aims for a more inclusive art world embracing diverse identities, bodies, and minds and invited creatives worldwide to send in their superstar videos asking Who else should we be celebrating? An overwhelming total of 82 films were submitted. The collective selected 21 films by artists from the Netherlands, Ghana, and Ukraine. One of those films is ‘Nelis’ (2012), filmed in the Albert Heijn Supermarket on the Elandsgracht in Amsterdam. Nelis lived in the neighborhood and used to stand there every day to hand out baskets to customers. He passed away some years ago, I think it would have been a big honor for him to be featured in this series!

‘We Need New Superstars’ will premiere on Friday, July 5 at Sexyland World in Amsterdam (NL) with filmmakers presenting their films. Additionally, the series will be exhibited at No Limits! Art Castle at Sexyland World until September 22.
Next screening on July 12th at cinema De Uitkijk, Amsterdam.
For those unable to attend in person, the online premiere will be August 23, 17.00 UTC, 19:00 CET. After that there will be a global tour with screenings at Reykjavík International Film Festival and Kyiv International Short Film Festival.

The series will also screen in the movie theater, at De Uitkijk in Amsterdam on Friday, July 12, at 21:00, followed by ‘Mondomanilla’ by Khavn.
