The portrait was sold to two Indigenous Surinamese sisters with whom I spoke on the plane to Suriname in February 2025. They live alternately in the Netherlands (The Hague, Amstelveen) and in Suriname (Galibi).
I created this portrait after my book Ala Sma Tori – Keti Koti Verbeeld was published, for a special episode of De Sociëteit (NTR), celebrating 160 years of Keti Koti. Diane Vlet was interviewed while I was drawing/painting her portrait.
Below: Portrait of Diane Vlet, sitting in front of the Slavery Monument in the Oosterpark, Amsterdam. Pen and watercolor on 29.7 x 42cm paper.
