Last Saturday I was invited, together with my husband, for an Iftar dinner with poet Mimoun Essahraoui and his family. Iftar is he fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan at the time of adhan (call to prayer) of the Maghrib prayer, after the sun has set.

It was a lovely evening. Mimoun gave me his new poetry book ‘De grijze zon – Tfuct temaṛɣiɣaḍt’ (The grey sun). It is his third poetry book. With poems in Tamaziɣt, translated into Dutch by Marieke Verwoerd, Roel van de Sande, Sibe Soutendijk and Maartje Jaquet (me).
