Yvonne Schoutsen wrote a new book: Tokiko. Gift to a Geisha, situated in her beloved country Japan. The author invited me to make two paintings for this book. One to illustrate the way a Geisha does the make-up of her neck (two sharp points around the shape of a ping-pong ball) and one of a taka-makura, the special kind of pillow a Geisha puts her head to rest on when sleeping, in order to keep her hairdo in the right shape.
The originals were made with pen and Japanese watercolors. I adapted the paintings for black-and-white printing. This week the first impressions came off the press. It won’t be long until the actual book will be available. How exciting!
