Teaching at St. Joost School of Art & Design

Last week I have been working as a guest teacher at St. Joost School of Art & Design, Den Bosch. Because of my work I was invited to teach pen and watercolor drawing / visual journalism. I gave a presentation of my work as wel as of other artists whose work I love, and we discussed which artists they liked, too, of course. I taught the students some pen drawing skills, gave them tips and tricks on how to work with water color and then the students were set to work with pen and water color in their own way.
All drawings were discussed the next day and each student designed their own newspaper page(s) which were presented on a wall in the social space of the academy.

Some of the students’ reactions:

– I would like to thank you very much for the workshop. I learned a lot, a really nice technique. I liked that you showed your own work and that we were allowed to do something similar in our own way, it felt very free but still instructive. The times were also really great, not full busy days but we still did a lot. I would definitely recommend your workshop to people who are going to do a workshop next time!

– I learned a lot, such as how to work faster and more loosely and I also found the assembly of the page very instructional. I liked that there were enough examples to get inspiration from.

– We did a great job last week and I think that the lessons have given me new perspectives and ideas. I found it very nice and above all very instructive and useful to practice different (and therefore also new) drawing techniques. I also feel that I have found new ways to make drawing as well as observing/researching easier, freer and more fun, so thank you for this workshop.

– She is a woman full of inspiration! I’m slowly finding my joy back in drawing and having a lot of fun with it!
