“You can’t make ugly things.”

Or the importance of art classes in special education. There’s an article in an Amsterdam paper about Het Spectrum, a school for children with special needs I am working for as an art teacher. I feel blessed to be able to work with these fantastic children, such an honorable and grateful job!

… We now have a permanent group of art teachers, who provide the art lessons on Het Spectrum with great pleasure and enthusiasm. “You can’t make ugly things.” You often hear that in class. The children respect what the others make and look at each other’s results with curiosity. It’s a relief that during these classes the children are not judged on what they can’t do. Let the children enjoy art and create together. We are looking forward to a creative new school year!
