Cherish our Mother Earth

Café Eijlders and Atelier Open present a group exhibition of nine artists who participate in the art project 10x10artist. The exhibition can be seen until September 4, during the café’s opening hours. Entrance is free.

The theme of Diversity, Solidarity, and Activism forms the starting point for a multifaceted presentation. The exhibition shows how art can challenge, connect, and inspire new insights. In addition to the works exhibited at Eijlders, the artists are also showing artworks in the 10 x 10 cm format specifically for 10x10artist. These can be viewed and purchased via 10x10artist. My work is the painting ‘Cherish our Mother Earth’, acrylic paint on 70×75 cm cardboard. Mother Earth takes care of us, but we must also take good care of her.

The painting is part of a series of new works. I have been working on this for the last year and a half to two years. While working on my book Ala Sma Tori – Keti Koti Verbeeld, I learned more about the Surinamese Winti religion, where Mama Aisa (Mother Earth) is so important, and discovered that this theme unconsciously played a major role in much of my free art work.

Mama Aisa became the source of inspiration for a new series of works using various new techniques: collage drawings (including for 10x10artist), ceramics (also for 10x10artist), paintings (such as this painting in Café Eijlders), and linocuts. An ode to our Mother Earth, whom we must cherish.

The participating artists are: Dorien Bellaar, Marleen Bouma-Kalshoven, Edith Brouwer, Maartje Jaquet, Mareike Naumann , Linda Rusconi , Ro-Nalt Schrauwen, Erik Timmermans and Valeria Vangelista
