Atelier Noord, ceramic artist Zamira Jonker’s studio in Amsterdam Noord (=North), where I work as a teacher assistant on Fridays, with childern, and where I also work to create my own ceramic art, has opened a new page on their website, which features work of all teachers, interns and volunteers. The website comes in three languages, Dutch, English and German (button above left).

It says: “We are proud of our teachers, interns, volunteers, and students who are affiliated with Atelier Noord. Here we put them in the spotlight and are happy to show their beautiful works made with clay. Artworks that are for sale and may also inspire you. We are happy to put interested parties in touch with the creators.”

Each artist has four photos with their work on display, you can click on their photo of the opening page to see their works and read their artist statement.

On my page it says: Maartje Jaquet began a project in 2024 centered on the theme “Mama Aisa” (Mother Earth in the Surinamese Winti religion). Maartje works in various media, and for this series she has added ceramics to her practice. Clay is, in fact, earth, making it particularly fitting for this theme. Maartje often draws directly into the clay and then applies color using engobe or glaze. In Maartje’s ceramics, Mother Earth—personified as a face, hands, and legs—merges with her surroundings: the sky, the water, and the forest.
