Najaar (Autumn) Salon

Sanjays Foundation Najaar Salon opened this week on October 14th at Vrij Paleis, Paleisstraat 107 in Amsterdam. This initiative by Johan Ganpat Brouwer brings together artists from the Netherlands, Suriname, and the Caribbean. This colorful and highly diverse exhibition showcases a wide range of work.

About my work: ‘For the past few years, Maartje has been working on a new series of pieces. Through her project and book Ala Sma Tori – Keti Koti Verbeeld (published in 2023), she learned about the Surinamese Winti religion, in which Mama Aisa (Mother Earth) holds a central place. She discovered that this theme had already been playing a significant role, albeit unconscious, in her personal artistic work. Mama Aisa now serves as the inspiration for this series of works—incorporating various new techniques.”
It is the first time that various forms of work centered on Mama Aisa—Mother Earth are on display together! This includes: a painting, collage drawings, ceramic medallions, miniature artworks, and a series from about a decade ago: collages made with sewing thread on cotton fabric. All works are for sale, including my book Ala Sma Tori – Keti Koti Verbeeld.

Free entrance, open from Wednesday October 15th through Sunday October 18th.
