Mothers from the Rif

Mothers from the Rif

It started with the portrait of Nasser Zefzafi’s mother (on the right) and a portrait I made for my dear friend and fellow artist, poet Mimoun Essahraoui of his yemma. *)

Yemmas n Mimoun, Yemmas n Zefzafi *)

After that, two more commissions came in:

 Yemmas n Boujamaa, Yemmas n Driss

Grateful to have the opportunity to portray and honor these beautiful, dear and brave women from North Morocco. Would love to continue working on this series!

Yemmam n Rabia

Above is a drawing of yemma Rabia, mother of owner Samira Dahmani, owner of Couscousbar. Rabia was busy cooking a large pan of Harira, a soup that is indispensable during Ramadan! The drawing featured in my series on the back page of Argus magazine.

*)
yemma = mother
yemmas n = mother of son
yemmam n = mother of daughter
